We are seeking a nearly qualified or recently qualified patent attorney to join our Chemical and Life Sciences team working on biotechnology matters.  The role will be part of our Guildford office working alongside one of the busy Partners, although we are currently working remotely and plan to continue with this to some degree going forwards.

The role requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience of handling biotech subject matter and a good understanding of the challenges arising in the field in terms of the technical subject matter, the prosecution of applications and the commercial environment in which our clients are operating. The role will involve a very large amount of direct client work and therefore original patent drafting, as well as patent prosecution for domestic and overseas clients, attending oral proceedings, and dealing with contentious matters, such as oppositions etc.

A strong degree in a biotech-related subject is essential (i.e. biological sciences, biochemistry, genetics, immunology etc).  The workload of the practice is very varied, but includes a large number of cases in the fields of antibodies/immunology, gene editing and gene therapy.

The successful candidate will be involved with the rest of the team in the further development and expansion of the business whilst working on existing portfolios.
