We have positions for up to four new trainee patent attorneys or “technical assistants”, in our IT, Electronics & Physics Team. This team works for a diverse range of clients from individuals and universities to large multinational corporations. The work covers a broad range of technical fields including aeronautical, communications, electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering, computer science, and applied physics.

You will receive comprehensive and structured on-the-job training over several years, and will attend external courses, to qualify by exam as both a UK and European patent attorney.

Our ideal candidate should have good analytical skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to reason logically, both orally and in writing. Excellent written English is an essential requirement for the job. You should also be able to demonstrate the ability to work individually to strict deadlines and to work as part of a team. Those with an open, friendly nature will do well.

You should have or expect to get a good degree (minimum 2.1) in an engineering discipline or physical science. Post-graduate students will also be considered. You will be expected to show a commitment to undertaking further study for the professional exams. Some knowledge of French and/or German is useful but not essential.
