New graduates and part-qualified positions available.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking candidates who are looking to train to become a UK and European Patent Attorney to assist with a growing portfolio of work. Applications from graduates, candidates who are currently patent examiners (UKIPO or EPO) and candidates who have obtained an accredited Certificate in Intellectual Property Law or are otherwise part-qualified are all welcome.

Preferred candidates will have an excellent academic background in Biology, Biotechnology, Immunology or a related field. Industrial experiences and/or a higher degree may be an advantage. However, the right person is more important than specific experience.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and friendly firm. Our modern approach and clear advice are appreciated by our clients and the recommendations we have received have led to an expanding workload.

Where will I be based?

We have a Bath office and a Southampton (Eastleigh) office. Candidates can apply to work at either office but will be expected to regularly visit the other office. We will reimburse your reasonable travel expenses when you work from the other office.

What will by salary be?

A competitive benchmarked salary is available to the successful candidate. There is also a discretionary staff bonus scheme, which is linked to your salary and is dependent on performance.

What other benefits are available?

Successful candidates will be welcomed into a happy and progressive environment. We offer a free private healthcare policy for staff (which currently includes access to GP appointments), free eyesight tests, a contributory pension scheme (Script will match contributions up to 5% of your salary) and 25 days paid leave per year rising by 1 day per year to 30 days after 5 years of continuous service. At the discretion of the Directors, we also give staff a Christmas shopping day every year (1 extra day of holiday to be used in the month of December). Spoiler alert, don’t be surprised if you come to the office and find delicious treats on your desk – if we can, Script like to make your birthday, Christmas and public holidays extra sweet.

What will my working hours be?

A standard work week at Script is 35 hours (7 hours per day). Your exact working pattern will be agreed with the Director responsible for your work, but as this is a fee earning role you will generally be expected to work during core hours (which we define as 10am-4pm). This reflects the fact that our clients expect us to be available to them during these hours.

We recognise that being a trainee Patent Attorney is a desk-bound job that requires concentration and that breaks during the day are beneficial, both to your wellbeing and concentration and to your accuracy. We therefore require that staff generally take a lunch break of 1 hour when working a full day of 7 hours.

How does Script select candidates?

Selection for roles will be based on individual merit alone. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Script IP is an Equal Opportunity Employer and we do not discriminate on the basis of age, disability, sex, race, religion or belief, gender, marriage/civil partnership, pregnancy/maternity, or sexual orientation. We are an inclusive organisation and actively promote equality of opportunity for all with the right mix of talent, skills and potential.
