The Keltie engineering team brings together patent attorneys with a wide range of technical and commercial backgrounds. Our work covers all typical engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, automotive, and aerospace engineering, in addition to technologies interfacing with other areas such as mathematics, software, chemistry, biology and materials science. To support this work, our engineering team includes attorneys with backgrounds in various branches of engineering, as well as complementary fields.

We are seeking a new member to join our team as a trainee, supporting our core engineering areas, and our notable work in the areas of sustainability and green technology.

The successful candidate will work across subject matter areas, including aspects of automotive engineering, renewable energy production, agri-tech, and material-handling equipment, amongst others. They will handle a range of mechanical devices/systems and aspects of control engineering, extending to computer-implemented inventions and elements of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Specific prior experience in these fields is not required, but candidates should at least have the skills and enthusiasm to work and develop their knowledge in such areas.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding academic background in a scientific or engineering discipline and will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of how technology works in their fields of interest. Other key qualities include excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, an entrepreneurial drive, and a personable attitude. The candidate should be comfortable with the responsibility of interacting with clients directly as well as being confident enough to foster new business relationships.

An ideal candidate will have a background in a relevant engineering discipline, mathematics, computer science or physics, and have gained at least a 2:1 in their first degree. It would be advantageous for the candidate to have a PhD and/or relevant work experience.

Importantly, the candidate will need to be a confident communicator, happy to engage with our direct client base and have the energy and enthusiasm to help foster new relationships.

The successful candidate will be supported through the process of qualification to become a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney.

Salary: Competitive Market Salary.

Hours: This is a full-time role, 35 hours, 5 days per week (9.30am to 5.30pm).

It is envisaged that the role will be based primarily in our London office. The option to work remotely for part of the week will be available.

This position is not eligible for sponsorship. The right to live and work in the UK ongoing is a requirement for this role.
