Why a Career as a Patent Attorney?

The career of a Patent Attorney will see you work alongside corporations big and small in a role that combines cutting edge technology, science, law, all wrapped up in a commercial environment.

Over your career you will develop into an important partner for businesses and inventors who are seeking advice and protection for their inventions. From drafting patents to defending them, you will be required to get under the skin of leading innovations.

The training process to become a qualified Patent Attorney is a challenge (one we hope you’ll relish) and typically takes 4 – 6 years to get both UK and European qualified. Here at HGF we offer exceptional support in helping you get there, from your own personal training budget to internal and external development courses including an annual CPD conference, we will treat you as an individual to help you achieve success.

The Position

We are currently seeking to appoint a Trainee Patent Attorney within our Engineering team to work in our York office which services a diverse range of clients. You will work under the tutelage of our qualified Attorneys, supporting them on a range of work to service clients, whilst they in turn support you in your development.

To succeed within this role, you will have a minimum 2:1 degree or Masters/PHD in an Engineering related subject area. If you have any exposure to Intellectual Property by way of work experience or a placement this will also be useful for your application. More broadly you will be keen to succeed and passionate about a career in Intellectual Property.

Remuneration Package

Highly competitive salary plus bonus and excellent benefits including pension, private healthcare, private dental care, 27 days holiday and a holiday purchase scheme.
