We have an opportunity in our sector-leading Life Sciences group for a trainee patent attorney. The successful candidate will receive the training, support and guidance necessary to qualify as both a UK and European patent attorney.

Applicants should possess a good degree in a Life Sciences-related subject, such as Biotechnology, Cell Biology or Biochemistry. For this position, we are seeking an individual with a cross-disciplinary background bringing together a Life Sciences-related subject with physics, electronics and/or IT. As such, applicants are requested to submit an additional statement of their cross-disciplinary experience with their application. Ideally, candidates should also have passed A level physics or equivalent.

Although not essential, some proficiency in French, German, Chinese or Japanese is desirable.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant team, working with and learning from leading individuals in the field, and having contact with a full range of clients from start-ups and spin-outs to large multinational corporations. The work will be varied and will include drafting and prosecution before the EPO, UK IPO and internationally, as well as freedom-to-operate work, oppositions, appeals and opinion work.
