Each year we recruit Trainee Patent Attorneys to our Chemistry and Life Sciences (CLS) team and we usually look for individuals with degrees in chemistry or biochemistry.  When our recruitment requirements are finalised, the details are published on our website.  If no relevant vacancy is advertised on our website, submit a speculative application and we will review your CV if one arises.

The role(s)

Our Trainee Patent Attorneys begin by learning the core skills of the job: drafting, filing and prosecution.  As they progress, they get involved in more complex and contentious advice work.

We aim to provide trainees with broad-ranging experience by ensuring they work with a variety of businesses requiring different patent services and service levels.

Trainees are provided with a range of in-house and external lectures, seminars and tutorials to compliment private study for the professional qualifications.  We also provide close support, coaching and mentoring to give the best start possible to what we hope will be a long and successful career in intellectual property.

The ability to offer clear and practical, no-nonsense professional advice to the Firm’s clients is of significant importance and successful candidates will be expected to foster effective working relationships with the relevant personnel within client companies; therefore, effective communication skills are essential.
