We have an exciting opportunity for a high calibre graduate with a background in materials science and/or chemistry to join our Derby office and train as a patent attorney.
The job will involve working with a variety of inventions in the materials and chemistry fields, along with mechanical inventions and potentially computational inventions. The chemistry work is likely to relate predominantly to materials rather than biological/pharmaceutical chemistry.
We have a wide range of clients, from very large multinationals to national companies, local companies and universities. We are committed to providing the highest quality intellectual property support and advice to these clients to enable them to achieve their aims. No two days are the same. On one day you might be advocating for grant of a European patent application at oral proceedings at the European Patent Office for a multinational client. On the next day you could be meeting a local client at their premises in preparation for writing a new patent specification.
Training as a patent attorney requires resilience, grit and commitment, given the nature of the work and the exams that one must pass in order to qualify. We strongly recommend that you investigate this before applying. The firm provides a lot of support to its trainees. Details of the extensive and structured fee earner development programme we provide can be found on our website.
The successful candidate will be:
- able to communicate effectively both on paper and in person;
- conscientious and capable of working to deadlines; and
- able to organise themselves.
We welcome applications from candidates that have obtained or expect to obtain at least a 2:1 at degree level. When applying, please provide details of your qualifications including A-Level grades (or equivalent) and GCSE grades (or equivalent) in at least science, maths and English language.
