We are looking for an individual with a degree in Biochemistry or a related subject and a PhD in immunology or a degree in Biochemistry or a related subject and substantial post-graduate work experience in the field of immunology to join our Biotech team. We are seeking to recruit a specialist in immunology whose expertise will support our growing portfolio of antibody-related technologies, including immuno-oncology and other immuno-therapeutics. The successful candidate will be given considerable training and mentoring to enable them to develop the skills needed to progress in the profession and to pass the UK and European patent exams. Over time, the role will encompass the full range of patent activities including drafting for British and foreign clients, filing and prosecution of European and other foreign patent applications, Oppositions and Appeals before the EPO and UK litigation.

A Patent Attorney’s day-to-day work generally involves corresponding with clients, Patent Offices and overseas Patent Attorneys, analysing patent specifications and drafting new specifications. There will also be meetings with clients, who are more commonly industrial companies than individual inventors. Patent Attorneys represent their clients at hearings, usually at the European Patent Office in Munich, and may be involved in litigation as advisers or advocates.

Candidates should have the following educational background and personal qualities:

  • a PhD related to immunology or substantial post-graduate lab work experience in the field of immunology is essential.
  • a minimum 2.1 or 1st degree in biochemistry.
  • high academic achievement (mainly As and A*s in GCSE & A Levels or equivalent qualifications).
  • an analytical mind.
  • the ability to: articulate ideas accurately and concisely both in the spoken and written word; demonstrate drive and ambition; work effectively and independently, as well as in a team; produce detailed and accurate work consistently ; and manage time effectively and work to deadlines.
