From iconic consumer brands and universities to small businesses and start-ups, we at Mewburn Ellis help businesses to achieve their trade mark goals, helping with brand protection and management. We work to build robust trade mark portfolios and make sure existing portfolios are effectively managed and exploited to the full.

We are the European trade mark attorneys of choice for a wide range of clients, from sole traders to well-known clients such as KP Snacks, Dog’s Trust, Hallmark Cards, Defected Records and Ping as well as many high-ranking UK and foreign law firms. Our well-established team of experts advise clients across the globe on all aspects of trade mark law and practice at every stage of the brand lifecycle.

Our team of Trade Mark experts currently consists of 5 partners and 2 Trainees across London, Bristol and Munich and is led by Kate O’Rourke (Head of Trade Marks). The Trade Mark group is supported by a dedicated team of specialist trade mark paralegals. To help us grow further we’re looking for an Attorney to join our team at Associate or Senior Associate level (4 years + PQE). Ideally this would be Bristol or London based.

The role

As the forward-looking firm our roles are varied and challenging, but always rewarding. Your career is important to us and we will invest in you to allow you to grow personally and professionally.

Key expectations for our new attorney will be around developing strong relationships with your trade mark team, along with collaborating with colleagues in the legal team and the continued expansion of client relationships. You will deal with contentious and non-contentious work as well as general portfolio management. Your objectives will be fair, transparent and achievable with an equal focus on commerciality as well as work/life balance.

We operate by providing our clients with the right people for the service they need, often working collaboratively across teams to ensure that there is a range of experience and expertise available to deliver fully for our clients. As such, you will have the opportunity to continue to develop and gain experience across the full spectrum of work that our firm offers.

What’s in it for you?

  • A friendly, inclusive and team-based working culture
  • A generous remuneration and benefits package
  • Enhanced pension scheme
  • Flexible working hours
  • 30 days annual leave (not including bank holidays)
  • Wide range of domestic and international clients
  • The possibility of working abroad

You’ll be supported to develop your skills as a Trade Mark Attorney through development reviews and regular input from experienced partners. And because we are merit-based, joining us means your career progression is in your own hands.

We are a leading, top tier European intellectual property law firm and have expanded by 50% in the last 3 years to 280 colleagues. In many ways our successful growth story is down to our training and our long-term commitment to the wellbeing of our people.  As part of this we have a variety of informal sporting and social events as well as running various charity initiatives.

About you

An enquiring, solution-orientated mind, proven technical expertise and a high quality focus are a few characteristics we look for. You’ll be a UK Chartered Trade Mark Attorney with significant experience post qualification. You will also be collegiate, approachable and willing to contribute to our expansion of our Trade Marks offering as a whole. You’ll have a solid track record of handling cases independently, running your own portfolio and in doing so, help to build a client base. Going forward you may help to train and mentor new members of the team and so possessing a collaborative mind-set will be key.

We’re committed to equal opportunities and welcome a broad diversity of talent to apply.
