You really don’t need to go back to the office. You can work from home all of the time (apart from the occasional meeting). And this is not a second-class option – your career will progress at the same pace irrespective of where you’re based. The firm just doesn’t see geography as a priority.
And you can have a really interesting mix of work – mostly direct, mostly close contact. Working with start-ups, universities and growing dynamic businesses. These types of clients value your opinion, expect commercial advice, and an understanding of IP strategy.
Of course, you will be drafting and prosecuting patents but you will benefit from an extensive contentious practice handling opposition and appeal proceedings at the EPO. You will develop your portfolio management skills and commercial acumen over time.
From a technical point of view the work includes antibody therapeutics, gene therapy, agriscience RNAi, microbiome inventions, and molecular diagnostics.
The firm itself has an open, progressive and friendly culture. They’re growing so opportunities longer term are significant.
