Carpmaels & Ransford’s industry-leading Life Sciences (Biotechnology) practice group is offering successful candidates the opportunity to qualify as a UK and European patent attorney. With increasing demands from our major international clients including Novartis, Eli Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, Regeneron, CSL, Shire/Takeda and Biogen, there is never a shortage of challenging, high-value work.

This is a fantastic opportunity to begin a rewarding and intellectually stimulating career using your scientific background and experience.

With a top-rated training programme we offer exceptional training and support for obtaining UK and EQE qualifications and beyond. Our ethos of collaboration informs everything we do, both in work and outside of it. The wide range of sports, clubs and charity initiatives sponsored by the firm are just some of the ways in which we encourage team-work and a healthy work/life balance.

We’re looking for exceptional graduates who possess a strong first degree (minimum 2:1 or equivalent) or PhD in a relevant technical discipline. For our 2022 intake, we are especially keen to hear from students with backgrounds in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, immunology and pathology. To train as a patent attorney, you must have a STEM degree in a relevant technical discipline. Further information on degree requirements for each group can be found on our website. Your degree will be complemented by strong A Levels (typically 3 at grade A or equivalent).

We are proud to be using Rare Recruitment’s Contextual Recruitment System (CRS) which allows us to consider your achievements in the context in which they were gained. We understand that not every candidate’s achievements look the same on paper – and we want to recruit the best people, from every background.

In addition to your technical skills, you demonstrate a natural curiosity and inquisitiveness, with a flair for writing and a meticulous eye for detail. Having an excellent command of both written and spoken English, you enjoy analysing and conceptualising complex matters, with a passion and aptitude for problem solving.

Our recruitment process is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your interest in a career within IP. If successful following the completion of our brief online application form and submission of your CV, you will be asked to complete a short pre-recorded video interview. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to attend a two-stage interview process, where you will meet a number of representatives from the firm. Interviews will be held during September and December.

In accordance with our equal opportunities policy, we will provide equal opportunities to any employee or job applicant, and will not discriminate either directly or indirectly because of race, sex, sexual orientation, transgender status, religion or belief, marital or civil partnership status, age, disability, or pregnancy and maternity.
