Carpmaels & Ransford is a industry-leading Engineering & Technology practice group, offering successful candidates the opportunity to qualify as a UK and European patent attorney. The team represents some of the world’s leading companies in a variety of engineering fields, ranging from surgical devices to lasers, from semiconductors to AI and from FinTech to drug delivery systems.

Our clients include Johnson & Johnson, Raytheon, Barclays and Micron.

This is a fantastic opportunity to begin a challenging and intellectually stimulating career using your technical background and experience.
With a top-rated training programme we offer exceptional training and support for obtaining UK and EQE qualifications and beyond. Our ethos of collaboration informs everything we do, both in work and outside of it. The wide range of sports, clubs and charity initiatives sponsored by the firm are just some of the ways in which we encourage team-work and a healthy work/life balance.

We’re looking for exceptional candidates who possess a strong first degree (attained or on track to receive a minimum 2:1 or equivalent) or PhD in the following areas:
•    Electronics
•    Electrical engineering
•    General engineering (with a substantial electrical or electronics focus)
•    Computer science
•    Software engineering

Your degree will be complemented by strong A Levels (typically 3 at grade A or equivalent).

We are proud to be using Rare Recruitment’s Contextual Recruitment System (CRS) which allows us to consider your achievements in the context in which they were gained. We understand that not every candidate’s achievements look the same on paper – and we want to recruit the best people, from every background.

In addition to your technical skills, you demonstrate a natural curiosity and inquisitiveness, with a flair for writing and a meticulous eye for detail. Having an excellent command of both written and spoken English, you enjoy analysing and conceptualising complex matters, with a passion and aptitude for problem solving. With strong time management and organisation skills, you are a strong communicator, both verbally and in writing.

Our recruitment process is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your interest in a career within IP. If successful following the completion of our brief online application form and submission of your CV, you will be asked to complete a short pre-recorded video interview.

Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to attend a two-stage interview process, where you will meet a number of representatives from the firm. Interviews will be held on a rolling basis and we encourage early applications.

In accordance with our equal opportunities policy, we will provide equal opportunities to any employee or job applicant, and will not discriminate either directly or indirectly because of race, sex, sexual orientation, transgender status, religion or belief, marital or civil partnership status, age, disability, or pregnancy and maternity.
