From its offices in London and Munich, Carpmaels & Ransford is a formidable presence in European intellectual property, acting on behalf of many of the world’s most innovative and successful companies. Never complacent, we are continually expanding our knowledge and experience by recruiting the brightest people and sharing our knowledge within the firm and throughout the profession.

We have the largest specialist life sciences group on one site in Europe. We protect some of the most commercially valuable pharma products in the world, and many of our biotech cases form the basis of EPO case law. We are also engaged by some of the world’s pre-eminent technology companies.

We are passionate about creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can be themselves and realise their potential. We recognise that diversity of thought is vital to our business, enabling us to approach challenges differently and offer our clients creative and original solutions.  Our diversity and inclusion policies and practices are informed through our work with organisations such as IP Inclusive, Stonewall and Business in the Community via the Race at Work Charter.

These steps help to ensure that Carpmaels & Ransford continues to be a supportive and inclusive workplace for our employees, so that we provide the best possible service for our clients.

We promote a healthy work/life balance through our wellbeing programme and encourage employees to actively support and positively impact our local communities. These include our partnerships with the Social Mobility Foundation and Holborn Community Association. We are also dedicated to reducing the impact of our operations on the environment and creating a sustainable workplace.

All of our social activities, networks and groups come together to make Carpmaels a truly supportive and healthy workplace.

What will you be doing?

Are you looking for an intellectually challenging, purposeful and rewarding career, with the opportunity to use your scientific and technical skills outside of traditional career paths?

Our two week, fully paid summer internship programme will commence on 27th June 2022 and will take place in our central London office. We also offer support towards travel and accommodations costs.

We will provide you with seminars, case studies, work shadowing and the opportunity to get involved with client meetings and live cases. You will also get to experience our social side, through meeting and getting to know a variety of people across the firm.

What are we looking for?

In order to enter the patent profession, it is a key requirement to have a STEM degree. Please see our range of commonly accepted degrees. Please note that this isn’t an exhaustive list.

Preference is given to candidates who are looking to begin a full-time graduate role in autumn 2023, and we welcome applications from individuals who have undertaken further study, including PhDs.

For this particular internship, we are looking for exceptional candidates with a physics background. You will be working towards, or have obtained, an excellent first degree (minimum 2:1 or equivalent) complemented by strong A Levels (typically 3 at grade A or equivalent) and a passion for science and technology. With an excellent command of both written and spoken English and a meticulous eye for detail, you enjoy analysing and conceptualising complex matters, with an enthusiasm and aptitude for problem solving.

We are proud to be using Rare Recruitment’s Contextual Recruitment System (CRS) which allows us to consider your achievements in the context in which they were gained. We understand that not every candidate’s achievements look the same on paper – and we want to recruit the best people, from every background.

When applying, please submit your application to one practice group only. If you are unsure which group is most relevant to your degree, please contact us via the contact box and we’ll be happy to help.

Please note that the number of spaces on the internship is limited. If your application is unsuccessful, please don’t be discouraged from applying to our other opportunities, including trainee positions and insight events.

We are proud of our inclusive culture where individual differences are celebrated and are committed to providing equal opportunities to all employees and job applicants. We do not tolerate discrimination either directly or indirectly on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital or civil partnership status, age, disability, pregnancy and maternity, or any other characteristic protected by law.  Our approach is embodied in our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, as well as our diversity and inclusion programmes.
