The role

We are seeking a senior knowledge lawyer to join our Dispute Resolution Practice Group to provide thought leadership, content, training and advice to the DR Practice Group and clients.

What you’ll be doing

Key responsibilities

  • Tracking forthcoming legal and sector developments and briefing on their implications for the practice, clients, and wider firm.
  • Working closely with the DR partners, Head of Knowledge, and Marketing & BD Director to create legal content in the form of briefings, training presentations and other thought leadership materials to be used to support client development.
  • Seeking and acting on opportunities to demonstrate our expertise to clients and in the press/relevant journals, as well as preparing content to make the most of such opportunities.
  • Devising and delivering a programme of regular briefing notes to clients that aligns with the team’s strategy and keeps clients updated on key developments as and when they arise.
  • Identifying knowledge gaps and opportunities to build expertise within the team.
  • Developing and leading the delivery of a rolling programme of legal training for fee-earners within the DR practice group.
  • Providing timely responses to ad hoc queries from fee-earners that are apt authoritative and demonstrate expertise.
  • Assisting with fee-earning work within areas of expertise and, in particular, on complex points of law.

KM strategy and culture

  • Participate in firm-wide knowledge projects and initiatives within the DR group to   improve efficiency.
  • Support the implementation and communication of the firm’s knowledge strategy.

Skills and experience we’re looking for

  • Senior lawyer with significant PQE experience in intellectual property, predominantly patent litigation, with exposure to the life sciences and/or tech sectors.
  • Strong academic background.
  • Excellent drafting skills and proven track record in producing expertly written and insightful client briefing notes, legal journal articles or other client facing materials.
  • Ability to deliver high quality content to tight deadlines that demonstrate a high level of intellectual rigour and technical mastery.
  • Proactive with strong communication and analytical skills, as well as a high level of commercial awareness.
  • Flexible approach with a willingness not only to take on fee-earning work alongside knowledge work but also to develop and broaden own areas of expertise as needed to meet the needs of the practice group.
  • Knowledge management experience preferred.
  • High level of IT literacy, with experience of using legal and business information systems, and SharePoint or similar platforms.

The recruitment process

  • Interview with Katie Gordon (Head of Knowledge) and Gillian Davison (Recruitment Manager).
  • Interview with two Partners from our Dispute Resolution practice group.

What we offer

We offer a competitive benefits package that currently includes the following:

  • 25 days’ holiday, increasing by 1 day per year up to our maximum of 28 days.
