The AI and Machine Learning (ML) revolution continues to accelerate, and is now driving more and more innovation in almost every application space imaginable. From medical technology, through video rendering, to autonomous vehicles, new AI/ML based inventions are constantly being devised and businesses are keen to protect their expertise and investment.
The world leading High Tech and Electrical team here at Boult Wade Tennant is at the forefront of supporting this revolution by helping today’s innovators protect their new inventions and navigate the intellectual property challenges that they face. We are looking for a talented and technologically minded graduate with a demonstrable ability in the field of AI and machine learning to join, and train with us to become one of the patent attorneys of the future specializing in this exciting and diverse area.
What’s it like?
Our work cuts across numerous technical areas and our clients range from high-profile multinational corporations, through SMEs, to new start-ups and individual inventors. This is especially true when it comes to ML innovation where true multi-disciplinary teams are often at the heart of the project. As such, the work is often fast paced and varied with each case posing its own technological and legal issues that need to be identified, understood, and addressed.
Working with people at the forefront of technological innovation to understand and protect their ground-breaking ideas is intellectually stimulating, challenging, and rewarding. As a trainee at Boult Wade Tennant you will be involved in this work from day one, analysing new ideas, speaking with inventors, formulating arguments all in close collaboration with accomplished supervising attorneys.
We have a strong history in fostering and developing our own talent, often from trainee all the way to Partner level. This graduate trainee role therefore provides an ideal opportunity to start your career in IP – working towards qualification as a UK and European Patent Attorney under the mentorship of our friendly and supportive Partners and Associates.

We organize numerous social and sporting activities to help foster our vibrant sense of community, and promote a healthy work/life balance. As a trainee you’ll be encouraged to get involved, to meet people and, importantly, to start building your own network of contacts within the profession.
